Proton Proton Gen.2 Popular Among Egypt's Younger Generation

KUALA LUMPUR: Its stylish look and sporty features have made the Proton Gen.2 popular among Egypt's younger generation, thus making it the best-selling Proton model in the country.

Passion for the car inspired one of the Gen.2 owners, 31-year-old Wessam Arafa, to set up the Gen.2 Club in Egypt. She really admired the car and feels proud to own it.

Very satisfied with the car's performance, Wessam said it offered value for money.

"It looks fabulous and I feel facinated when I drive the car," she told reporters during a gathering of the Gen.2 Club in Cairo recently.

The club was set up in June 2006 and it now has about 300 members.

Another club member, 35-year-old Sameh Morsi, said what he loved about Gen.2 was its sporty and modern features.

"I'm very happy to own the car. For me, this car is really worth buying," he said.

The Proton Gen.2 was launched in Egypt in 2006 and so far about 3,500 units are on the road.

Commenting on the response of the Gen.2 in Egypt, Proton Holdings Bhd's managing director Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir said he was suprised by overwhelming response to the model.

"I never realised that the response to Gen.2 is so encouraging in Egypt. I think this is a good opportunity for Proton to make further inroads here," he said.

Proton entered the Egyptian market in 2001 and so far about 5,500 units of Proton models have been sold.
